Grande Prairie businesses continue to strive for a safer night out

Now in its seventh year, the Best Bar None (BBN) program in Grande Prairie has accredited local hospitality establishments for their continued efforts to demonstrate responsible liquor service and patron safety.

“Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is proud to congratulate all the award winners and accredited Best Bar None venues that have raised the bar on customer service and safety. Given the ongoing challenges COVID-19 has presented to Alberta businesses, the continued success of this program is greatly due to the collaboration between industry and communities, and their commitment to promote responsible liquor consumption.”

Alain Maisonneuve, President & CEO, AGLC

For 2020, nine venues followed top service standards to become BBN accredited:

  • Bar One
  • Boston Pizza Westgate Drive
  • Boston Pizza Northside
  • Crown and Anchor Pub
  • Diamonds Gentlemen’s Club
  • Great Northern Casino
  • Maddhatters
  • The Den Pub and Carvery
  • Trumps Lounge – Stonebridge Hotel

From this group, three venues also won awards for continuing to raise the bar on customer service and patron safety:

  • Bar – Diamonds Gentlemen’s Club
  • Casino – Great Northern Casino
  • Lounge – Boston Pizza Westgate Drive

“The Best Bar None program enhances patron and employee safety, as well as improves the professional relationship between program participants and local agencies. I commend all Best Bar None participants for creating positive partnerships and business practices through this program – your efforts do not go unnoticed. Thank you for making Grande Prairie a better place.”

Kelly Kokesch, Program Manager, Enforcement Services, City of Grande Prairie

Members of the public were encouraged to to have their say and vote for their favourite accredited establishment between November 9-15, as part of the BBN People’s Choice Awards:

  • Best Bar – Diamonds Gentlemen’s Club
  • Best Food – Madhatters
  • Best Staff – Diamonds Gentlemen’s Club

Already operating in more than 135 accredited establishments in Edmonton, Calgary, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge and Banff, the BBN program aims to reduce alcohol-related harms by:

  • encouraging businesses to adopt best practices related to customer safety and responsible service of alcohol;
  • giving businesses the tools to be better prepared for any violent incidents; and,
  • building positive relationships between industry, enforcement agencies, governments and community.

The program is a partnership between AGLC, the City of Grande Prairie Crime Prevention, Enforcement Services and Fire Department, and the RCMP.
